Al-Ittihad have reportedly added Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to their list of defensive targets this summer with the English defender seemingly not in Jurgen Klopp’s plans this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi side have added the defender to their list of targets and due to his versatility, the defender ranks high on the list for Al-Ittihad as they seek defensive cover.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool do not want to sell either Mohamed Salah or Joe Gomez to Al-Ittihad despite the Saudi Pro League side registering a strong interest in both.

News of Al-Ittihad’s attempts to lure Salah to Saudi Arabia broke last week, with the links dismissed by Jurgen Klopp ahead of the Reds’ 2-1 win at Newcastle on Sunday.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are also looking to bolster their defensive options, and that has led them to pursue England international Gomez.

Would Gomez fit into the Saudi side’s defence

According to the report from Simon Jones of the Mail, Liverpool are reluctant to lose one of their longest-serving players, particularly with Virgil van Dijk facing further punishment following his red card in the victory at St James’ Park.

Gomez would be the first Englishman to make the move to the Middle East this summer and he would be a very good signing for Nuno’s side.

The fee may well stop the Saudi side from signing the Englishman as Liverpool do not want to lose the former Charlton Athletic defender so a high fee would be required for the Anfield club to depart with Gomez.
